When it comes to brochure design, getting it right can make all the difference. A well-designed corporate brochure isn’t just a collection of pages, it’s a powerful marketing tool. It tells your story, explains your products or services clearly and connects with your audience in a way that feels professional and on-brand.

Consistency is key. When your brochures and other marketing materials look and feel like they belong together, your business builds credibility and trust.

Print vs Digital brochure design

One of the most common questions I get asked as a graphic designer is ‘Should I go for print or digital brochures?’ The truth is, both have their strengths.

  • Digital brochures are flexible. They aren’t limited by page numbers or paper sizes, and they can even include interactive elements to make them more engaging. A PDF brochure, for example, can be shared instantly, updated easily, and keeps costs down.
  • Digital brochures are more common place now for industry and many people are more comfortable with using these tools as opposed to print
  • Printed brochures offer something digital can’t: a tangible experience. The paper you choose, the finishes you apply, even the weight of the pages all send a message. A soft matte stock can feel elegant and sophisticated, while a glossy finish might feel bold and promotional.
  • In today’s digital-first world, print is still incredibly valuable. A physical brochure is more unique and can sit on a desk, be handed out at an event, or picked up later, creating a lasting impression that digital often can’t match.

So often the answer is unique to the particular job, sometimes its one or both options.

Why good brochure design matters

Good design is about more than making something look attractive. A professional brochure needs to:

  • Balance information so readers aren’t overwhelmed.
  • Guide the eye naturally through the content.
  • Highlight what’s most important to your audience.

Often, businesses want to include everything, but an experienced brochure designer knows how to edit and refine. The goal is clarity, not clutter. Working closely with clients means I can use their knowledge of their customers, while shaping the content into something clear, effective and engaging.

For instance, in a project for Calder, redesigning their brochure transformed not just the visuals but also the legibility, making it easier to navigate the different products and services. A “before and after” shows just how much of an impact smart brochure design can have.

Pushing brochure design further

Whether its a brochure or leaflet taking the design further and coming up with a new idea or something interesting is also very important. Take my work for Worcester Cathedral as an example. The original visitor map in their welcome leaflet was cluttered and confusing. I redesigned it as an illustrated map that was fun, engaging, and easy to navigate (see the before and after below).

It didn’t need to show every single detail on the map, as signage within the cathedral did that. Instead, I focused on the most important points visitors cared about. The result was a welcome brochure that was not only useful but memorable and engaging, it’s been very well received by both the Cathedral team and the visitors.

Why every brochure design is unique

There’s no “one-size-fits-all” approach to creating effective corporate brochures. The principles of good graphic design with clear communication, strong visuals and balance are always there, but every client is different, so every solution must be. What works perfectly for one business may not suit another, even if they’re in the same industry.

That’s why brochure design should always be thoughtful, tailored and created with your unique brand and audience in mind.

Frequently asked questions about brochure design

Q: Is print brochure design still relevant in the digital age?
Absolutely. While digital brochures are quick to share, cost-effective, and easy to update, printed brochures still carry a lot of impact. There’s something memorable about holding a beautifully designed brochure in your hands. Print stands out in a digital-heavy world and can leave a lasting impression at events, in meetings, or even just sitting on a desk.

Q: What makes a good corporate brochure?
A strong brochure balances clear communication with great design. It should flow naturally, highlight what’s important, and avoid overwhelming the reader. On top of that, the design needs to stay consistent with your brand—so everything from the fonts and colours to the tone of voice feels connected.

Q: How do I choose between print and digital brochures?
Think about your audience and goals. Digital brochures are flexible, cost-effective, and perfect for sharing online or via email. Printed brochures, however, add a tactile, personal touch that digital can’t replace. Many businesses find the best approach is to use both: print for impact, and digital for convenience.

Q: How do I know what content should go into my brochure?
That’s where a designer can really help. Many clients want to include everything, but the most effective brochures focus on the essentials. A good designer works with you to refine the content, ensuring your message is clear, engaging, and tailored to your audience.

Q: Can brochures really help with marketing?
Definitely. A well-designed brochure is a powerful marketing tool. It not only informs your audience about your products or services but also builds trust in your brand. Whether printed or digital, brochures help you stand out and give your customers something tangible (or clickable!) to remember you by.
